This week’s episode of Call Your Girlfriend answered listener questions about how to start a podcast. Eventually, the conversation devolved into “there aren’t many women in podcasting,” which I’ve found over the last year to be absolute bullshit. When Kaarin did oodles of research before starting our show, she found that there were plenty of women in podcasting, but very few women in the top charts on iTunes. We’ve seen great growth in podcasting over the past few years, from both men and women, but the women-led podcasts still aren’t going to drop out of the sky and into your lap. You have to find them. We have to help each other find them. So when people tell you there are no women in podcasting, show them what you’ve been digging lately. Get out your iTunes or whatever player you have on your phone and show off your subscriptions. We have to build listenership for women one new fan at a time.
