Episode 112: Nordstrom Layoffs, Target Fashion Collaborations, Bad Friendships

Welcome to another addition of Pop Fashion podcast! This week in fashion news - Nordstrom is going through a round of layoffs, the Target designer collaboration with Marimekko was considered “meh” (but is that an accurate representation?), and ads with counterfeit products are making their way to Instagram. A new study says that people aren’t buying Made in America goods - are higher prices the barrier to sales? Adidas is coming out with a fly shoe made out of trash, and J. This week in hot topics - Nordstrom (allegedly) forgot to tell people they have an aviation department. At the same time, J.Crew’s golden child, Madewell, is signing up to be part of the Nordstrom empire. In other news, Stitch Fix is an example of a rapidly growing fashion company that has developed a new mode of shopping. Also, Nike is going after three former employees. Is this a case of a corporation going after the little guy, or three designers playing cat and mouse? The Wall Street Journal penned an article about flats vs heels - are flats now acceptable as a stylish staple? Finally, South By South West (SXSW) has become THE annual event for tech & music, but is all that free swag really free? Or, do you have to sell yourself to get into the great parties?
